Local 555 indentures successful applicants into one of two apprenticeships, Boilermaker or Welder. Upon completion of an apprenticeship the apprentice will have the opportunity to write the Interprovincial Red Seal in the chosen trade to become a Red Seal Journeyperson.

To become considered for apprenticeship, interested individuals will be required to submit a resume via email or deliver the resume in person to one of the Local Union Halls. Upon notice of consideration, individuals will then be required to write an assessment exam and achieve a minimum of 70% to proceed in the hiring process. Successful candidates will then be interviewed by the apprenticeship selection committee to attend a pre-apprentice training course. This course will be delivered by Local 555 staff to complete the final stage of the selection process. At the completion of the pre apprentice course qualifying candidates will then be required to sign the apprentice regulation policy along with the apprentice indenture contract to begin the apprenticeship process.

About the Assessment

The assessment exam can be prepared for by obtaining the guide “Preparing for the Boilermaker Trade”.  To obtain a copy visit skillplan.ca or contact the training coordinator.
